Advanced Academics
The Henrietta ISD Gifted and Talented program begins to formally
test and identify students at the kindergarten level, as prescribed by
TEA (Texas Education Agency). All students are given the ITBS test in
kindergarten. Students scoring in the 95th percentile, and meeting other
criteria, are placed in the gifted and talented program.
For students not identified at the kindergarten level, testing is
available based on parent, teacher, self, or community nominations.
Students are tested and selected on the basis of IQ, standardized tests,
parent survey/inventory, teacher survey/inventory, and portfolios.,
Students must be in the 95th percentile in 3 of the 5 criteria.
Students who have been identified in another district and transfer to HISD are accepted into the GT program.
Students that are identified are challenged through Prime Time, field trips, and differentiation in the classroom.
Students who do not maintain a passing average may be placed on
probation and eventually dismissed from the program. There is an appeals
process outlined in the gifted and talented parent handbook.
Nominations are accepted in the fall, and an article is placed in the local newspaper giving those dates each year.
