BARLEY, Our School Dog

Barley is an important member of our HES team.  He is a Labradoodle, and we use him in several ways.  Deserving students and classes can spend time with him as a reward for PAWSitive behavior.  He's a great listener, when students need to practice reading or just want to share a story with him.  He also encourages students who are struggling academically or are dealing with other problems.  Dogs have been shown to have a calming, supportive, and encouraging effect when used in schools.  Barley definitely provides these things for our students as well as our staff.  He is very gentle, affectionate, and intuitive.  Please read the information about Labradoodles below and feel free to contact Kristin Lennon (940-720-7910 ext.3) with any questions regarding Barley being used in our school.

Labradoodle Information

The Labradoodle is a unique breed of dog created when Labrador Retrievers are bred with Standard Poodles. The cross between the two personalities makes for an exceptionally kind, friendly, and intelligent pet. The non-shedding and hypoallergenic characteristics of the Poodle really come through in the breed, making it a wonderful companion for those with allergies.  Labradoodles were first created in Australia to provide service dogs for people who needed them but who had previously been unable to have one due to allergies.
